Instructional Design (ADDIE MODEL)

Hello everyone!

Today, I am going to share with you about Instructional design. Which also knows as instructional systems design (ISD) where it practice systematically design, develop and deliver instructional products and experience through digital (web/software/online presentation etc) or physical (using whiteboard/cue cards etc). It intend to be efficient, effective, appealing and inspiring towards learners in acquire knowledge.

The process includes :
  1. Determining the state and needs of learners
  2. Define end goal of instructions
  3. Create 'intervention' of task to assist in the transition

The outcome of this instruction should be directly observable. There are many instructional design models but many are based on the ADDIE model which include these five phases

  1. Analysis
  2. Design
  3. Development
  4. Implementation
  5. Evaluation

ADDIE MODEL

In each phase, teachers need to identify few things in order to ensure they will reach the goal/objective of learning process.

First, (Analysis)Teachers need to :

  • Who are the learners and what are their characteristics?
  • What is the desired new behavior?
  • What types of learning constraints exist?
  • What are the delivery options?
  • What are the pedagogical considerations?
  • What adult learning theory considerations apply?
  • What is the timeline for project completion?

Next, (Design)
The design phase deals with learning objectives, assessment instruments, exercises, content, subject matter analysis, lesson planning, and media selection. The design phase should be systematic and specific.

And then we go to, (Development)
Teachers and developers create and assemble content assets described in the design phase. If e-learning is involved, programmers develop or integrate technologies.

After that, (Implementation)
implementation phase develops procedures for training facilitators and learners. Training facilitators cover the course curriculum, learning outcomes, method of delivery, and testing procedures. Preparation for learners includes training them on new tools

Last but not least (Evaluation)
The evaluation phase consists of two aspects: formative and summative. Formative evaluation is present in each stage of the ADDIE process. Formative evaluation typically involves qualitative feedback (rather than scores) while summative evaluation is conducted on finished instructional programs or products.

There are other models that have been discussed in the class, but I will share with all of you in the next post! Don't forget to check out my other post for more info about other models!
